When you initially set up your Pageport account, all your landing pages use the default Pageport domain. While this works, customizing your landing pages with your own unique domain is a great way to improve email deliverability and establish trust. Follow these steps to seamlessly configure your custom domain, starting with configuring a CNAME record.
1. Configuring the CNAME Record
If you're unfamiliar with CNAME records, don't worry β our help desk article provides step-by-step instructions to guide you through the setup process.
You'll need to add a CNAME record that looks like the table below where host is the prefix in the subdomain you would like to use (we often recommend page or hello). For example if I use the host page and my domain is pageport.com my leads will receive links that start with page.pageport.com
host: page
value: cname.vercel-dns.com.
2. Accessing the Custom Domain Settings
Once you have your CNAME Record go to your pageport dashboard and navigate to the "Settings" tab.
3. Adding Your Custom Domain
In the Settings section, you'll find a tab labeled "Custom Domain." Click on it, and you'll see a field to add your custom domain. Following the example above, we would enter page.pageport.com. Note this value should be the host you entered for your CNAME record following a . and then your own domain. Please add this domain without https://
4. Validate Configuration
Click Configure and ensure you see a green message on the page that says Valid Configuration. If you get this response you are good to move onto step 5.
If you get a red message that says invalid configuration it could either mean the CNAME Record setup in step 1 was entered incorrectly or that your DNS provider is still updating (this may take up to 30 mins). If you are confident that you've entered the correct information in both steps 1 and 3 then you can click the refresh button periodically which will attempt again to validate the configuration.
5. Checking Your Custom Domain
Navigate to your leads' section, refresh the page, and either add a new lead or check an existing lead's landing page link and ensure the url is know coming from your own custom domain.
